Day Four-Dress, Chambray top and shoes, all from Target on sale, watch/Target, necklace/DIY by me.

Conference time!  Boy, this was a tough one as we were made to arrive at 0715 every morning for this conference and I really didn't want to get up that early when I'm staying in a hotel with all the amenities.  It just seemed wrong that they would spoil me with such nice accommodations at night and make me leave it so early in the morning.  I brought plenty of clothing to do many mix and matches, but as it turned out the clothing I packed was compact enough and didn't throw me over the 50 lb limit that I didn't have to mix and match other than my evening wear.  It appears I completely forgot that I would be socializing in the evenings and I didn't bring much of anything casual to participate fully.  But that's ok, this hotel had great room service and I just love room service.  My boss loved my ensembles and asked me to teach her how to thrift and still look professional.  Hmmm, maybe I should charge her?  There is no ensemble for day five, I went naked, not!  I just forgot to take pics.  Maybe my boss has one, I'll check.  Thanks for reading.  I know the pics are fuzzy but one day I'm hoping to talk a certain someone into buying something a little more sophisticated:-)

Casual Friday

I'm a sucker for plaid but at my age the trick in wearing a plaid skirt is to pair it with something adult like, ie. a blazer, tank top and heels.  And picking the right type of plaid skirt will prevent you from looking like a school girl (Brittany Spears style) as long as you don't go that extra mile and put your hair in pig-tales.

Yes, I'm still worried about exposing my legs these days, but how else will they get tanned if I don't expose them to some sun? Besides skirts keep me cool. And in this heat who doesn't need that? Unless of course my boss will approve my wearing mu mu maxi skirts to work everyday. Hmmm.

I'm traveling next week for a conference and have no idea if I'll be able to post photos of the day for you.  I'm grateful you're tuning in every day or every other day, or once in a while, or just sometimes:-) I've been watching my numbers and they keep me motivated to keep digging in my closet to find new things among the old.  I'm certain my husband thanks you too because my spending habits have changed dramatically as well.  That's helpful don't ya think?

There will be days...

When you miss the mark, and no one will tell you that the outfit you're wearing just looks absolutely awful on you. It's a shame I didn't see it this morning as I ran through the whole day wearing an outfit that made me look old and frumpy.  About the only thing I liked about my look of the day is my hair.  Oh well, chalk it up to another experience to learn from. No harm, no foul.

The $7 Dress

This outfit was pretty tough to put together.  I wanted a one piece outfit for the simplicity of it, but I veered off into use of different belts and shoes so that pretty soon I found myself going nuts.  I decided to try basic black accessories. To my surprise the outfit came together.  Purchased at Old Navy, this dress was $7 and with a discount even less.  I was worried at how to style it but after this morning I can see the possibilities will go on.  I had originally paired this outfit with my orange pumps and I still like the look it creates but I'm just
not too sure.  What do you think?

Blue For a Blue Day

Who would have thought that after a day like yesterday it would be so gloomy this morning.  I believed this heat wave would continue on through today.  Hence the light weight summer attire.  I really need to get in the habit of checking the weather.  Skirt and shirt are both super lightweight and cool.  Paired with one of my favorite belts and wedges I'm comfortable as can be for a work day.

Why No Weekend Posts?

Top-Target, Belt-ON, Skirt-VS

Typically my weekends are spent muddling around in what I like to call loungewear.  I've been trying to make it a bit more interesting and fashionable but I don't always get around to it.  I'm convinced my husband thinks maxi dresses and skirts are pajamas because when I get up on the weekends the first thing I put on is a maxi dress, I fall asleep in them, lounge by the pool in them and even run out to the store in the middle of the night in them. To be honest I think the maxi is the new mu mu. My mother never wore things like this when I was a child but she did make me a maxi dress or two which I wore until the fabric wore out. So, yes, I'm a fan.  You don't typically see weekend photos because I usually am far too lazy to put on makeup or do my hair.  So these pics? Yeah, dirty hair and no makeup.  I did brush my teeth though.
I want to give a shout out to all the dad's for the celebratory Father's Day this weekend.  Love and hugs.

And my thoughts are with KandeeJ for the loss of her father just a few days ago.  Hon, my condolences to you and yours. I know what it's like to lose your daddy and it's something that will stay with you forever.  Continue to read his emails and texts if they give you comfort.  Over time, your thoughts of him will continue to bring tears, but smiles will accompany them. Love and hugs to you too.

Hot Pink Temps

The temperatures are getting higher here in the Inland Empire.  So, I'm looking for cool colors and fabrics to make sure I don't burn up during the day.  The office is air conditioned but once I start going out into the field I need to stay cool.  What better ensemble than a thin cotton top that breathes and multi colored skirt.  And yes, you've seen this skirt before.  I just love the colors and pattern of it.  It seems to go with just about any color blouse and I just love the possibilities of it.  That's gross grain ribbon attached to the top of the skirt and eliminates the need for a belt.  Needless to say you can spot me walking a mile away in these colors.  My new fav.

I'm Back!

Finally!  I was starting to get a little worried there that perhaps I stepped into something I didn't know a whole lot about and wouldn't be able to get out of.  In a panic that my blog had been spearheaded into cyberspace, I made a few phone calls and got her up and running again.  I'm disappointed in myself that I only produced one day's worth of outfit pics in the interim, so I will write more of something else to make up for it. How worried am I that I'm showing too much leg in this outfit? Not much really.  You need to let your legs out of their skins (jeans) in order to get some sun, don't you?  I know it looks hot and sunny out and I'm wearing a blazer, but really it was a tad bit cool this day.
I'm really liking the idea of shopping my closet.  The only new piece I have on here is the turquoise necklace made from two separate pieces bought at the local Hobby Lobby at 50% off.  A cute necklace for less than $6.

Page Down...

For a few more days until I can figure out what happened to it.  Be patient.  I will be posting as soon as it's back up and running.

Update, I think I got this thing fixed.  We'll see.

Color Me Up

I'm learning some valuable lessons as I continue to filter through my closet and drawers.
#1 My shopping trips do not have to happen all that often.
#2 There's more to a wardrobe than black and
#3 Wearing bold color doesn't mean you're coo coo or that you have a quirky personality. (I'm certain mine is quite bland)
In discovering those three facts I'm learning that while this blogs title has the word fashion in it, the blog is primarily about finding your own style, no matter what your age, and setting your own rules.  Your style and mine will never be the same, because everything about us is what determines our individual style. Does that make sense?
The big whammy for me was that I needed to try new things.  By that, I mean pulling things out of my closet, even if I think it won't go, and laying it out on top of something else to see if it suits me.  I may even have to try on several items before deciding on one outfit that gives me the warm and fuzzy.

Being worried about this color combination pushed me to try it on and until I saw someone else wearing it I still wasn't sure.  It's kinda like the "you go first" thing.  You want to see someone else do it before you put yourself out there.

Not Quite Nautical

It's supposed to be a beautiful day out today, so I thought I'd go for a nautical feel today.  Not quite nautical I know, but when I found this shirt, I was thrilled.  Only $9 at Sam's Club Warehouse.  I know right?

Paired with these loafers, I feel quite comfortable going into work today because I'll be driving to the different centers all day.

This outfit was put together for less than $50.  Top-$9, Skinny Crops-$9.99, Belt-$6, Loafers-$6

Totally diggin the pocket.
The sun finally came out and my dogs finally left me alone after depositing tons of black dog hair all over my white crops.

Top-Lucky Brand via Sam's Club Warehouse, Crops-Target clearance rack (finally something in my size), Belt-Target  clearance, Loafers-ON clearance (couldn't believe my eyes that these were $5.99), Bracelets Right arm-Target mixed also on clearance for $4 per pack, I got two. Bracelets left arm-really old bought on clearance for dirt cheap. Earrings-Gift from my girl Tiff

Age Appropriate Wear...Again

So, I'm digging through my closet and I come across these.

Shirts of my past.  Ok, some are a little more recent:-)When I was 40 and only looked around 30ish, (no snickers please) I purchased many t-shirts that looked like this one below.  I was also all of 125 pounds soaking wet.  I ran a lot and watched what I ate and devoutly did yoga every single late night of my life.  Why?  I was going through a divorce.
The other night I heard my husband tell a friend of mine that after his divorce he went through this period where he sampled the much younger woman.  He didn't know why other than he just wanted to prove to himself he still had it.  I think that's what I was going through when I purchased these shirts.
That crazy period may have even contributed to my getting a tattoo.  Who knows? But there comes a time when you must simply reason with yourself and rid your closets of all that spells too much youth (think tiny jean skirt).  I am woman, hear me roar!  Well, maybe not roar, but you know what I mean.
This shirt actually looks good on me, but just the other day while leaving Target I spotted a girl that had to be under the age of 13 wearing this same shirt. I don't want to be compared to a 13 year old. So this one t-shirt that looks good on me has to go find a home probably with one of the neighborhood 13year olds:-(

Colors to Blend

Cleaning out one's closet sure gets the inspiration wheel rolling.  I found my black jeans and decided to pair them with yellow.  I know, so bee-like.  The rest of me is neutral of course as that is what I'm comfortable with.  I'm wearing a jacket because of all the ills I need to hide.  If I eat too much today it will surely result in a muffin top.  So the jacket is a must.

I know my dogs must think I'm crazy when I'm taking pics.

Casual Friday

Remember what I said about the little jean skirt?  Well, I'm really hoping this skirt drives home my point in that sticking with a respectable length keeps you respectable.  If your skirt rides up above your buttocks when you bend over, don't wear it at any age.  Seriously!
I have discovered yet again that I have grown into this skirt as well.  Just a few months ago I was swimming in it and now it's just a tad snug. One more donut and I'll be pushing it.  I've had this skirt/short(skort) for more than 3 years and have only worn it on one occasion.  Because it's casual Friday at the office today, I think I can get away with it.

                                                                                        What do you think?
