Who knew?

Wow, all these years of putting my make up on one way and one way only; I'm at a loss for words.  I discovered, shortly before falling asleep with Ipad in hand, I've been putting my foundation on all wrong.  FOR YEARS!!! I'm talking like 30 something years!! Gasp!
Can you imagine?  Well, I don't think there were people in my life that could really tell the difference. At least I hope not. But my knowing is just too, too much for me to handle.
How to Apply Liquid Foundation is a great tutorial if you've ever questioned, "Am I doing this right?" while putting on your foundation.  Have a look and be amazed if you didn't have this information already.
Me, this morning at around 6am.  I put my makeup on at 4:30 am.
I tried the technique this morning and was thrilled at how quickly and flawlessly my foundation went on.  I was impressed with the results to say the least.  I used no concealer and if you knew me, you know I have to spackle that stuff on in the mornings.  Who knew you had to let your make up set?  Not me!
My mother taught me at the tender age of 15 how to apply my foundation. That's right, I wasn't allowed to wear makeup until I was at least 15.  No mascara, no lip gloss, nothing could go on my face until that magic age.  Even then, I was allowed to buy only one bottle of Cover Girl liquid foundation, one tube of mascara and one Cover Girl blush.  That was it, nothing more. Before leaving the house in the mornings I had to submit to inspection to ensure I wasn't wearing eyeliner or eye shadow.
The only tips my mother gave me were to make sure the foundation was blended at the jaw and hair line.  Fingertips were used and no need to seal your foundation with powder; that was just unneeded expense.  During the few modeling shoots I did as a child only powder was applied. I mean really, how much makeup does a twelve year old need?
So back to the application method.  I love, love, love it.  This is by far the speediest method I've ever used or seen.  Just in case you're wondering what foundation I applied, it's Loreal's Visible Lift Serum Absolute in 149 Natural Buff. Check out the tutorial (link above) and start stifling away:-)
Me at 4:30pm this afternoon, with absolutely no touch ups aside from  lipstick.

Who Cares...

about rules?  Ok, ok, I know there are some rules of fashion we simply must follow. When it comes to wearing white after Labor Day, I really think one should be judged on a case by case basis of what we should or shouldn't accept in the name of fashion and style. Just so you know, I'm not the only one wearing white after Labor Day.  Kacie (my inspiration of the day) of Kacie's Kloset decided to be just as adventurous.  Although I do believe those of us who live in California get some sort of reprieve from the rule, you know, because of the heat and all;-)

Stripes

I really didn't know what to call this post so, Stripes it is.  I love stripes, but sometimes it seems they don't love me.  I find stripes very difficult to wear and even more difficult to find something to wear with them.  Stripes on my body no matter what the location, just make everything look bigger. This skirt however seems to keep it all in check

Looking Good No Matter What...

is sometimes very hard to do.  Laying eyes on someone you thought you'd never see again? Well, it's never easy to maintain your composure in their presence.  So, you run like hell and hope like all get out your boss's door is already open.

And when your photographer bails on you, somehow you have to figure it all out.  Oh well, that's why we're big girls, right?  I'm struggling to make this camera work the right way but it looks like it will take some time.  For now, you get semi blurry and cut off pics.  My apologies.

It's starting to cool off a bit as we head into fall. Finally some breezes are blowing our way.  So I needed an outfit that kept me cool for the heat and warm for the air conditioning.

The silk top has some pretty big ruffles. When the ruffles lay just right this top is gorgeous. Because it's silk any amount of sweat shows through.

Style Favorites

I know I've been gone from here for a while now.  I guess there is no easy way to tell you all of what is happening in my life so here goes.  I recently separated from my husband with the intent to retrieve what was broken.  Recent events have determined that can not happen. While we tried, the connection we once shared seems to be irretrievably broken. I'm hoping that the blog will continue despite my trusty photographer's absence. The show must go on, right?

So, without my style pics for this week I thought I'd share some of my favorite "finding your style" websites.  I subscribe to them all and hope you find some inspiration through them much like I have.  See below links and find more inspiration.  Enjoy!!

J finds inspiration and builds her own style from websites, magazines and fashion shows.  She has her own unique style and graciously gives us a list of websites for her picks of the day.

Kendi has been blogging for quite some time and has done quite a few 30 for 30 remixes.  She now has her own clothing store called Bloom and many of her clothing choices come from her own business.  Love Kendi as she has put together pieces I never dreamed of trying.

Audrey was truly inspirational with her tutorials on maximizing the wardrobe you have.  Her tutorials on building a remixable wardrobe are well put together and filled with tips on purchasing the right piece to build on what you already have.  I use many of her tips when shopping and I can't tell you how my budget squeaks a bit less these days thanks to her.

If you're into refashioning your current wardrobe or looking for simplistic additions, this is the place for you. I couldn't stop going through every post to learn more ways to redevelop what I have already.  Love it.

I think many already know about Marissa as she's been making her way around the talk show circuit showing us how to refashion old finds into new beauty's.  She has a book coming out soon, so watch for it.

That's it for today.  Happy perusing and hopefully you will make it into work tomorrow. If you're anything like me, you won't :-)
