Boots Weather

Yes, it was cold enough this morning to put on my boots.  I love wearing boots because it just feels like I'm getting over some how.  Especially my flat boots. No tripping or carefully placed steps to worry about.  Even with heeled boots there seems to be a bit of relief from the worry that I will come out of my shoes or cramping and achy feet.  A mix of casual and dressy was in store for today as it is finally cooling off in San Diego.

And in case you were wondering what kept me from posting an outfit yesterday?  I was painting lanterns.  I love this turquoise blue paint I bought a couple of months ago with the intention of painting my bedroom side tables.  Not sure what color I'll give them now, but I still plan to paint them. The lanterns look so cute in this color I think it's best to make the side tables a different color. Perhaps I'll get to that next weekend.
Before, rusty and glass pushed out.
All shiny and blue.

Grey Monday

Yes, these jeans are a tad bit large on my now.  I was surprised to see how loose they were this morning. But time was of the essence and I figured it didn't matter, it's Monday.  I think everyone would completely understand if I walked into work wearing my Elmo pajamas, right? Unwashed hair = Sock bun! I love it that my hair is getting higher and higher.

Even though the sun is shining outside it's a grey Monday for me.  I still have homework to complete, ugh,  and I got a late start out the door this morning thereby grabbing the first thing I saw, which was this combo of too big jeans and too small top (set your clothes out the night before!!). As a result of this hurried hurriedness,  I have been uncomfortable all day.  Typically I wear this top with a tee underneath and a few buttons left undone.  I just simply didn't have the time this morning.  I actually wore this outfit with a big gray chunky sweater for most of the day because it is so cold in my office and it was pretty chilly as I stepped out of the house this morning.  Leave the office and suddenly the sweater looks a little weird.  Pics are sans sweater. Trust me, it's better this way:-)

Unusual Saturday Postings

I know, right?! I only decided that since I am home anyway, I might as well post.  The intention today was to go to a charity poker run, but after learning that the quiz's I posted to class last night were the wrong ones I had to scramble this morning to complete the correct quiz's.  Fun be gone. As a result of staying home I got sidetracked as usual and well, here you have the results of my getting sidetracked.

While I have you here, there is something I've been meaning to address  since a friend brought it up.  She mentioned to me the other day that she liked my blog, "but, most women over the age of 40 don't look like you Kim."  So, given that, I wanted to make something very clear.  I don't expect anyone to attempt to look like  me. The primary intention of this blog is to help myself, first and foremost, figure me out. I'm no expert at anything; my life is lived by trial and error.  If I happen to get some really great advise from someone and it works for me, so be it.  That makes me happy.  If I fail, then I learn from that mistake and drive on.
I realize like so many of you, that I am different.  I don't fit into anyone's mold nor do I meet everyone's expectations.  I am imperfect and prone to making mistakes. On the flip side of that thought, it is my hopes that someone over the age of forty will look at my successes and failures and learn from them or help improve on them.  That's why we have the comments section below.
Furthermore, this blog, while titled and geared to a specific age group, really isn't solely intended for us old folk.  Luckily, fashion in recent years has begun to blur the lines between generations (yay). You hear it all the time, 40 is the new 30 and 50 is the new 40. I'm not trying to prolong my younger years. I'm simply trying to dress better with my age progression and create a confidence within myself.  Let's face it, we all get in a rut at times. Some of us crawl out of it and move on. Others need a bit more shoving.  I hope that whatever your needs or intentions are when you read this blog, you get something, anything from it. Thus far all feedback has been wonderful and that's why I continue to post.  I like the person within me that emerges once I post my photos.  I'm not lost to myself and that's something that is really important to us all.  I hope you continue to have a great weekend and it's quite possible that if I complete my homework today, I'll post again tomorrow.

These jeans are so old the buttons on the pockets have fallen off. To refashion old jeans simply roll up the pants legs. Because the neck of this top is so wide, I'm uncomfortable wearing alone.  Layer a tank underneath.  Today the weather is such that I can do that.

Casual Friday with a Wrap Up

What a week it's been.  I have to say I am very pleased with my selections this week.  I didn't think I could possibly find anything new to wear out of what I already had. Look, I managed.  I bet I could do even more from what's in that dark abyss of a closet of mine. So get ready. I wore my Old Navy jeans twice this week. Casual Friday dictated it.  Hey, they were clean!

So, day four of my dirty hair and I had to wear it with a headband.  I can't take it anymore and at this point the only real options are to tease the hell out of it and slap it behind a headband. No worries. It didn't bother me, but I seriously need to wash it tonight for sure.  I finally get to go on a Poker Run for charity this weekend. Plan on enjoying myself.  I hope you all have a good weekend.  Caio!!

Slouch Wear

Do you ever notice how you feel when you're wearing your slouch wear?  I always feel somewhat blah, blah and blah.  I decided that even though I was wearing slouch wear today, I wasn't going to look like I was wearing slouch wear.  I started out in sweats, my mens hanes tank and flip flops.  Let's upgrade, shall we?

My jeans are thrifted from the Salvation Army.  I paid a whole $2 for them.  They are a bit loose now because I've lost another two pounds, so they add a bit of slouchyness to my look. My mens hanes white tank, is swapped out for this one from Aeropastle. I traded my flip flops for flats and added a cardigan. And there you have it, my slouch wear is now going out to run errands wear.  Day three of my dirty hair finds it up in a high sock bun. Add earrings and a necklace and you have an attitude change. Now I feel like conquering the world! Ok, not the world, just a few errands:-)

Prime and Mud

That's right, it's Wednesday and every Wednesday at Black Angus is Prime and Mud night (I received no compensation for that shameless plug).  Don't be hatin!  I'm so happy to meet my friends for dinner. Yay! How cliche is it for me to be wearing leather?  For me? Totally doable.  I'm going to a steakhouse, to eat steer, wearing leather. Well, faux leather that is. What a way to end a stressful day.  To work early, got loads done. Then the afternoon turns into, well, bull hockey. No bother, someone once said when you think you got it bad channel your energy into helping someone who really does have it bad.  I don't know who said that, but I read somewhere that someone said that.  I did just that, I channeled my energy and time into someone else who is going through something similar.  We both feel much better now.  Thanks LT.  I appreciate you trusting me to do the listening for a change.

These are my favorite jeans, with my favorite booties and my favorite faux leather jacket.  You've seen me wear this top before here. You know that's why the morning was so great.  I was dressed in favorites!  Can you tell this is day two for my dirty hair?  That's right, my girl N wants me to see how long I can go without washing my hair before I absolutely have to either wash it or use some sort of dry shampoo or product to get it to not look dirty.  We'll see how long it takes before I break. After all, I'm a wash my hair everyday kind of girl.

Copy Cat

My inspiration for the day.

Ok, it's not exactly a copy cat, but I did find it inspirational.  I put this together with my nude pumps but wondering if I shouldn't have ventured into the black bootie look? My booties stop just before the ankle, so I'm not sure they would have created the same look.  But hey, I tried.  This look will do for the office and considering I'm having to work from home today, I don't suppose it matters much. The gist is that I like the color and structure combination. I managed to use that to build a look that was both age and weather appropriate.  Speaking of age appropriate, am I the only person that has to hit the gym constantly to maintain?  I dropped around ten pounds recently and after not hitting the gym for a few days I am up 2 pounds.  Why oh why?!

Red Jacket and Stripes

I came very close to not posting this simply because of a strange offhanded comment on my ensemble today.  At work, a friend commented that I looked like I was selling real estate.  He meant it as a compliment he said, but somehow the compliment sounded a bit back handed.  I took it to mean I either looked conservative or old.  I'm a bit sensitive about my age these days:-/ So I'll take conservative.

This skirt seems to be difficult to pair with anything other than a Chambray top and even more difficult to bring into Fall.  Because it tends to ride up with each step, I prefer to keep the waist either belted or covered by a jacket, cardigan, or sweater.  Equally difficult to pair with anything is this jacket but I thought the ensemble came together quite well despite the visions it produced of me carrying For Sale signs to prop up in front of homes.

I've worn this jacket before here. I also paired it with a skirt then.  The intent when I purchased the jacket over a year ago was to pair it with a pair of bell bottom jeans.  I've yet to do that but when I do I assure you I will post the pic.

Coffee and Cheesecake?

You bet, anytime, anywhere, I'm there!  My girl "M" and I agreed to meet up for a day of girl talk and reading.  We decided we needed some real quality girl time, no guys allowed.  If you've been reading my blog for long you know I don't typically post my weekend pics, mostly because I never really go anywhere or do anything on the weekends.  Actually, that's not a true statement.  I do go places, its just that I usually dress like a slob.  I'm not doing that anymore.  I decided that weekend places to go are just as important as weekday places to go, so I will dress the part.  And you know what? As a result, there was a noticeable difference in my attitude.  I felt good about the way I was dressed and very pleased the ensemble came together as planned.  Nothing fancy really, just simple, but cool.  We enjoyed a day of shopping, reading, gossiping and cheesecake.  Girlfriends should always gossip over cheesecake! So here I am, sans makeup with bed head.

Friday Wrap Up and All Sorts of Happiness

It's Friday Wrap Up and again, I forgot to take pics of today's outfit.  I'll have to set my calendar to remind me every Friday from here on out.  That's what happens when you get old, you forget things.

Perhaps if I didn't have such a big distraction this Friday, I wouldn't have forgotten?

Here she is, my precious distraction.
We had loads of fun and today's outfit was more about hers than mine. She picked it out all by herself after seeing my blog photos.

After swimming in the pool this morning, we sang along to popular pop songs, we danced at the duck pond and then...

we baked some extra special cupcakes (link is the recipe for the frosting) for some extra special people.
Iz's cupcake is the one without frosting.
I don't need any frosting Mimi!
 Ummm, Yum!
Here's to hoping your weekend is as good as mine.  Bake some cupcakes and create smiles.
