Neutral Heaven

This outfit didn't quite turn out to be what I had planned.  I recently read an article that stated when putting yourself together it's a good idea to think far enough in advance so the outfit you choose will work the first time you put it on.  I attempted to do that last night.  In my first pic you can see what I planned to wear.  I carefully laid everything out right down to the accessories.  I thought to myself, "yeah, this will save me tons of time."  Ok, ok, while I can admit it did save me some time, it didn't quite measure up to a ton.  I can only wish.  I failed to read the whole article which after doing so I realized I missed a very crucial part of the process; trying everything on.

After walking out of my bedroom and looking in the full length mirror, I could see there was some tweaking to do.  Gap jean jacket was replaced with cropped Old Navy dark wash jean jacket.  I said goodbye to the scarf and gold watch chain.  Replaced them with my trusty DIY silver pendant necklace.  Went to work for most of the day only to realize the jean jacket was entirely too hot.  Lucky for me I had an overnight bag with a shirt or two in the back of my car.  Imagine my excitement when I pulled this shirt out of the bag. I was so grateful I had something in the bag that matched besides a white wife beater.

A much cooler option would have been my chambray shirt, but hey, beggars can't be choosy.  I know putting together neutrals is an easy thing to do, but putting this outfit together was a challenge for me.  I was looking for balance to the long maxi skirt I wore as a dress.  The jean jacket looked ok, but it didn't give me exactly what I was looking for.  This shirt gave me balance.
